Grab a "Business Bite"

Valdosta State University's first student-operated business, Business Bites, will hold its grand opening on Wednesday, April 27, in Crane Plaza, located between Pound and Thaxton Halls, on Rea and Lillian Steele North Campus. The concession kiosk is a business venture of the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE).

Business Bites will be open Monday thru Friday between the hours of 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. They will be open for an extra hour on Wednesday. Primarily, they serve lunch items such as hot dogs, sausage dogs, personal pan pizzas, nachos, potato chips, Famous Amos Cookies, and Coca-Cola refreshments.

The business eventually will be open for longer hours, serve breakfast, and add healthier items to the menu. FLEX, a service that allows students to use their campus identification cards to purchase items, will be available soon.

The kiosk managers are Aaron Gee, senior marketing major, and Zack Shuster, junior accounting major.

"This is a great learning experience for students," Gee said. "This business gives students the opportunity to run a real business and gain the experience they would not normally get from a class or a textbook."

The students did all key work, from writing business and marketing plans to acquiring the necessary monetary expenditures. Profits from the business go back to the venture and the SIFE Organization.
