Valdosta State University will host South Georgia Writing Project

Valdosta State University (VSU) will host a summer session of the South Georgia Writing Project (SGWP) scheduled June 1-30. Teachers and administrators will be in attendance after being invited to participate and selected through personal interviews.

The South Georgia Writing Project is a site of the National Writing Project that began in 1974 with 25 teachers. Today, more than 2 million teachers have participated in writing projects.

The SGWP seminar offers intensive leadership training to enable participants to become expert teachers. The goal of the project is to improve students? writing ability of various forms by providing professional development programs and expanding the professional role of teachers.

SGWP members will meet Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at VSU. Members will create writings daily ranging from personal to professional purposes and will participate in various activities such as peer groups. Upon completing of the institute, fourteen participants will earn six credit hours in English or nine SDU's.
