VSU to host service learning conference

Valdosta State University will host the third annual Georgia Regional Academic Service Learning Conference on Thursday, Jan. 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the University Center.

Teachers and students from local elementary, middle and high schools will present their service learning projects. Special guests include 11 students from England and 15 students from the U.S., who are participants in the International Service Learning Exchange Project. They will share their experiences of working on an international project that focuses on citizenship.

The goal of the conference is to promote service learning as a way to increase student achievement and strengthen citizenship. It also provides a forum to help K-12 students share their service learning projects; and to provide contact information for university students who want to be involved in service learning, as part of their academic curriculum.

VSU, the Valdosta City School System, South Georgia P-16 and the Georgia Systemic Teacher Education Program are sponsors of the conference.
