VSU Homecoming 2002 events

Valdosta State University alumni and friends are invited to return to campus and participate in this year's homecoming activities during the week of Oct. 7?12. The theme is ?In a Blaze of Glory? and will feature a variety of activities for today's students and those from the past.

A complete schedule of events include:

Monday, Oct. 7
A homecoming kickoff party, from 6?9 p.m., on the front lawn in front of West Hall, this event is open to all current VSU students and will include free food, entertainment, giant slide, roving artist and more.

Tuesday, Oct. 8
VSU student night at Wild Adventures, from 5?11 p.m. VSU busses will transport students to the theme park from Hopper Circle, 4:30?9:30 p.m., and return to students to the university until 11:30 p.m. Students must have a current VSU student identification card to attend this event. Wednesday, Oct. 9
BET (Black Entertainment Television) Comedy Night, at 8 p.m., in the University Center Magnolia Room.

Thursday, Oct. 10
Students, alumni and friends of the university are invited to attend the Blazer Pep Rally, 7 p.m., PE Complex. A lip sync contest will be part of the night's activities.

Friday, Oct. 11
Golf Tournament: The annual alumni golf tournament will begin at 10 a.m., at Stone Creek Golf Club. Pre-registration is required. Cost: $50. For more information, contact Alumni Relations at 333?5797.

Reception: Psi Lambda Chapter of Chi Omega will host an alumni reception, 5?8 p.m., at Remerton Grille. For more information, contact Holly Strickland at 253?9908.

Parade: The annual homecoming parade will start at 5 p.m., at the old Sallas Mahone School on Patterson Street and will end at Brookwood Place.

Lady Blazer Basketball: All former Lady Blazers, athletic boosters and alumni are invited to join Coach Kiley Hill and the current Lady Blazers for an extended family dinner at 6:30 p.m., in the University Center Magnolia Room. For more information, contact the Athletics Department at 333?5890.

Alumni Board Meeting: The elected board of directors of the Alumni Association will meet at 6 p.m., at the Valdosta Country Club.

Annual Dinner: The Alumni Association annual dinner and meeting begins at 7 p.m., at the Valdosta Country Club. This event will feature the presentation of the 2002 Distinguished Alumnus Award to Jessie F. Tuggle, class of 1992. Reservations are required for this event and the cost is $17.50/per person. Blazer Tennis: A tennis banquet honoring coach John Hansen's 30 years of service will be held at Ocean Pond at 7 p.m. Reservations are required. For more information, contact Sachin Kirtane at 333?5902 or the Athletic Department at 333?5890.

Minority Alumni: A minority alumni reception will be held at the Holiday Inn on St. Augustine Road, from 7?9 p.m. For more information, contact Alumni Relations at 333?5797.

Saturday, Oct. 12
Road Race: 5-K Road Race/Walk, registration begins at 7:45 a.m. and race begins at 8:30 a.m., in the Recreation Center parking lot. For more information, contact Campus Recreation at 333?5898.

Lady Blazer Basketball: All former Lady Blazers are invited to compete against each other in the Iron Woman basketball game, at 9 a.m., PE Complex.

Alumni Tailgate Party: Alumni and their families are invited to attend a free tailgate party with faculty and friends from the College of the Arts, College of Arts and Sciences, Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration, College of Education and College of Nursing, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Williams Street Parking Lot. Football Reunion: The football letterman's reunion will begin at 11:30 a.m., in the Williams Street parking lot next to the Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.

Football Game: Everyone is invited to come and support the Blazers as they take on the Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils, 1 p.m., Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.

Minority Alumni: A minority alumni Soul Mixer, will begin at 9 p.m., at the Elks Lodge located at 2107 Baytree Road. Tickets are $20 at the door.
