Nursing students showcase their academic progress

Valdosta State University College of Nursing will host Scholarship Day, on April 12, from 8:45 a.m. to noon, in the University Center. Junior and senior nursing students will demonstrate their academic progress and knowledge in the field of nursing.

Each session will feature poster and verbal presentations and this year's topics include: ?HMOs,? ?Innovative Teaching Strategies,? ?Healthcare Financing,? ?Workplace Violence,? and ?Disaster Preparedness in the State of Georgia.?

According to Dr. MaryAnn Reichenbach, dean of the College of Nursing, Scholarship Day provides students the opportunity to present topics of importance and interest and gives the college an opportunity to recognize significant student achievements.

Recruiters from surrounding areas, including representatives from the Armed Forces, will be in attendance to provide nursing students with information about their facilities, job prospects and bonuses available for nurses entering the workforce.

?This linkage between students and employers is critically important during this severe nursing shortage,? Reichenbach said. ?We appreciate the enthusiasm the students bring to their presentations and the support of the clinical agencies who participate in the event and help provide financial support as well.?
