VSU to host 'Works on Paper XII' exhibit

Some of the country's best works of art on paper will be unveiled at the opening reception of the 12th annual ?Valdosta Works on Paper? exhibition, March 19, at 7 p.m., in the Valdosta State University Art Gallery (Fine Arts Building). The exhibit will continue through April 13 and is open to the public free of charge.

This exhibition will feature a diverse collection of artworks including drawings, paintings, photography, mixed media and three-dimensional paper constructions. A total of 38 artists from 20 states were selected out of 150 submissions for this year's show.

Dr. Richard Cary, from Mars Hill College in North Carolina, will serve as the judge for this year's competition. Cary is the former chair of VSU's Art Department.

In selecting the finalist for this exhibit, Cary looked for artwork of high quality that represented a wide range of contemporary art as well as more traditional works. ?The exhibition has to function as a harmonious entity with each artwork selected contributing to the integral whole,? Cary said.

The VSU Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and until 3 p.m. on Friday. For more information, call the Art Department at (229) 333-5835.
