History and Secondary Ed Dual Program

Term-by-term sample course schedule

The milestones listed below each year are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. A sample schedule is provided as a general guideline to help you build a schedule each term. Your courses must be selected with your advisor to satisfy all core curriculum and state, lab science, and multicultural requirements. Refer to the Undergraduate Catalog for the most current curriculum.

Refer to this program's page and the VSU Core Curriculum page in the academic catalog for more detailed information about degree requirements.

Visit the Dual History and Secondary Ed page in Majors & Degrees for general info about the field and degree.

The History major requires 9 hours in a single foreign language, but majors seeking the Dual Major of B.A. in History & the B.S.E.D. in Sec. Education can use EDUC 2120 in place of Foreign Language 2001 as well as EDUC 2130 & SPEC 2000 in the Core Field of Study.  The Dual Major of the B.A. in History & the B.S.E.D. in Secondary Education can be earned at 126 hours as long as participants take their 1st foreign language in Humanities as well as History 1011 & 1012 in Social Sciences, otherwise attaining the dual major will require more than 126 hours.  Any dual major who is not accepted to the B.S.E.D. program, or if accepted, fails to meet various B.S.E.D. requirements, reverts back to all requirements of B.A. DEGREE in HISTORY. (See http://catalog.valdosta.edu/undergraduate/academic-programs/humanities-social-sciences/history/ba-history/)

If you're interested in this Dual Degree program, we also have the B.S.Ed in Secondary Education program with a concentration in History. Feel free to compare and find which one is right for you.
