Bobbie Ticknor Virtual Reality Classroom

The Bobbie Ticknor Virtual Reality Classroom is an immersive learning resource supported by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Valdosta State University. The classroom supports the use of virtual and augmented reality in courses and academic programs by working with VSU faculty, students, and staff to provide curated immersive experiences, equipment, and technical support for activities connected to clear learning goals. Through planned class sessions, workshops, and consultations, the classroom helps faculty and students explore meaningful uses of immersive technology across disciplines.
Originally designed by Dr. Bobbie Ticknor, the classroom hosted its first class in summer 2019. The VR Classroom is located in Room 2220 of Odum Library.
What We Do
The VR Classroom collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to explore how immersive technology can support teaching, learning, research, and other university-related projects. Activities may include virtual field experiences, simulations, interactive demonstrations, skills training, immersive media, and other experiences developed around the needs of a course or academic program.
Faculty and staff may work with the VR Classroom to identify an existing immersive experience or explore a new idea connected to their instructional goals. Students may also request support for approved course projects, supervised research, and other university-related work.
Fall 2026 to Spring 2027
During Fall 2026 and Spring 2027, VSU is reviving the Bobbie Ticknor Virtual Reality Classroom through a limited number of faculty collaborations, training opportunities, and student learning experiences.
If you are interested in exploring how virtual or augmented reality might support your course, program, research, or student project, we would love to hear from you. Contact Dr. Carl Ide, VR Classroom Coordinator, for more information or to discuss a possible collaboration.
