How did majoring in English prepare you for your career?

Majoring in English benefitted me greatly in my career as a reporter. Being able to write well is something that was expected of me from the start when I was hired, and VSU's English Dept. prepared me to write at a professional level in terms of grammar, punctuation and structure.

How has majoring in English enriched your life?

Journalism is what I am passionate about. I want to tell stories that matter to people, and majoring in English at VSU made that possible for me. When I enrolled at VSU, all I knew was that I wanted to be a writer. After learning from professors like Ted Geltner, Patricia Miller and so many more, I knew I was capable of chasing that dream.

What advice or insight do you have for VSU alumni and students interested in your career field?

My advice would be to never consider yourself above needing to ask questions. Professors at VSU, specifically those who teach journalism, are very knowledgeable and can help you become confident in your ability. Look to grow while you're in school, and don't be afraid to admit you don't know something because the feeling of learning something new and expanding your skill set is hard to beat. Good luck and God bless!
