Daniel Kwawuvi, a Master’s student at Valdosta State University, is investigating the impacts of changing environmental conditions on the phytoplankton community within the lake ecosystem. At the morphological level, he employs flow cytometry in conjunction with light microscopy analyses of net phytoplankton samples to establish a foundational baseline for the lake's phytoplankton composition. Additionally, he is utilizing molecular techniques to characterize the heterotrophic bacterioplankton community, further clarifying the complex interactions occurring within this lake.
