Dear Pre-Dental Hygiene Major: This map is a term-by-term sample course schedule. The milestones listed below each term are designed to keep you on course to graduate in four years. One sample schedule is provided as a general guideline to help you build a schedule each term. Your courses must be selected with your advisor to satisfy all core curriculum and state, lab science, and multicultural requirements. Students are only accepted in the Dental Hygiene program each fall semester.

According to the American Dental Association, Dental Hygiene is of one of the 30 fastest growing occupations. Dental hygiene programs prepare students for performing dental cleanings and oral examinations; they also instruct students on how to teach others about good dental habits. Dental hygiene graduates can go on to become dental hygienists, or they can also pursue careers as dental assistants, health educators, dental assisting, and medical sales.

Students who complete the dental hygiene program will graduate from Valdosta State University with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene. In order to receive licensure in dental hygiene students must pass the Dental Hygiene National Board and the Central Regional Dental Testing Service clinical exam following graduation. The dental hygiene program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. All dental hygiene students must complete a core curriculum of at least twenty-one hours at Valdosta State University as well as forty-eight hours of dental hygiene courses at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College.
