Advising Impact Report
University Advising
We are committed to providing guidance to students from “door-to-degree". This support comes from both professional and faculty advisors. As students learn to navigate VSU, our advisors will empower students to take ownership of their education by supporting them with the resources and curriculum needed to reach their educational goals.
2024-2025 Highlights
Advising appointments for all full-time, professional advisors have been successfully transitioned into slate, creating a more efficient and user-friendly system for both students and staff.
The foundation has been set to reduce the number of faculty advisors from nearly 300 to just 100, ensuring a more effective advising experience across campus.
Faculty advisors continue to receive ongoing training and development to strengthen their ability to support student success through meaningful, informed guidance.
As of July 1, 2025, every University Advising advisor has completed the nationally recognized appreciative advising course, reinforcing our commitment to student-centered, strengths-based advising practices.
Looking ahead: 2025-2026 Goals
The advising experience will be fully unified through slate, streamlining communication, scheduling, and student support to create a seamless process from start to finish.
Faculty advisors will continue to receive hands-on training as they transition to using slate for scheduling and student engagement, ensuring a consistent and modernized advising system across all departments.
A complete overhaul of the transfer student onboarding process will enhance efficiency, clarity, and connection—helping new blazers make a smooth and confident transition into the VSU community.
