Access and Testing
Access & Testing
The mission of the Office of Access & Testing is to serve as leaders in removing physical, educational, and other barriers by collaborating with and motivating students, faculty, staff, and the community so that they can ensure that all VSU classrooms, events, and experiences are seamlessly accessible to all.
As part of that mission, we will promote and maintain an atmosphere conducive to providing a constructive testing environment when administering standardized, academic, and certification tests – consistently striving to assist and provide accommodations for testing groups and individuals, when needed.
2024-2025 Highlights
This year, the Office of Access and Testing took a fresh look at its purpose and direction. After thoughtful collaboration, the team combined two existing mission statements into one streamlined, powerful statement that reflects their shared commitment to accessibility and student support. The new mission was unanimously approved by staff and now serves as the foundation for the office’s ongoing work.
In keeping with national updates, SAT administrations successfully moved to a fully digital platform. Staff and campus partners completed extensive training on the new testing protocols, ensuring a smooth transition for students. To enhance reliability, the office also partnered with Institutional Technology to create plans for a dedicated Wi-Fi network for Saturday testing sessions.
The Office of Access and Testing worked to improve connectivity for SignGlasses, an online service supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing students. By collaborating with Institutional Technology, the team implemented an independent Wi-Fi network exclusively for this platform—removing barriers and ensuring every student can fully access the services they need to succeed.
Looking ahead: 2025-2026 Goals
The Office of Access & Testing will collaborate with Health Promotions to support the annual VSU Pink Out event in October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This partnership will engage the campus community in advocacy, education, and visibility surrounding an important health cause.
To honor National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the office will partner with Human Resources, Financial Aid, and the Graduate School to promote awareness and highlight opportunities for equitable employment. This collaboration will emphasize the importance of accessibility and inclusion in every workplace conversation.
The Office of Access & Testing will enhance its social media presence to better connect with students and share important resources. Through consistent online engagement, the office will work to increase awareness of its services, promote accessibility initiatives, and strengthen connections across the campus community.
