About Government Documents
U.S. Documents at VSU
The Government Documents collection at the Odum Library was established in 1956 as a Selective Federal Depository in the Second Congressional District of Georgia. The primary mission of the Depository is to collect, organize and provide free and unimpeded public access to United States Government Publications and Georgia State publications in support of Valdosta State University's mission and curricular needs. Government Documents also strives to serve the informational needs of the general public and the District communities.
GA Documents at VSU
Odum Library at Valdosta State University became an official selective depository of Georgia state publications by invitation of Dr. William G. Potter of the University of Georgia Libraries. State agencies are required by legislative act to supply the University of Georgia Libraries with five copies of all their publications (O.C.G.A. 20-5-2(f)). On August 28, 2000, Valdosta State University had the prestigious honor of receiving an invitation of housing and making publicly available one copy of the state documents received under the Georgia law.
The Government Documents Librarian (Emily Rogers) is a member of the Reference Services department. Each professional Reference Librarian will provide reference assistance regarding government information.
