All first-year students entering VSU are assigned a Centralized Advising team member to guide them through their first year of college. Each academic advisor serves as a point of contact for the student and help in their transition from high school to college. After a successful first year (30 hours), students are transitioned to college advising.

The Student Success Center (SSC) is an academic success program serving as a compass to help students navigate their course work and get a clear bearing on success with free one-on-one tutoring for core courses, success workshops, and Supplemental Instruction Leaders who lead weekly study groups for historically difficulty courses, such as Math, Biology, History, Chemistry, and more.
