b'A Computational View of the CephalosporinsShaun W. AndersonSponsor: Dr.Thomas ManningThe Cephalosporins are a group of antibiotics that are in their 6th generation of development. Like all antibiotics they have suffered from the rapidly developing problem of antibiotic resistance. In this computational study, both physical parameters such as logP values, TPSA values, parameters related to hydrogen bonding, etc. are calculated for a number of structures. We also calculated a number of parameters related to biological activity such as protease inhibition values. The aim of the study is to see if the calculated values of the different generations of drugs shifted in one direction or another and can be correlated with understanding antibiotic resistance. An Overview of Antibiotics and Bacteria: Medicinal ChemistryBrandy J. GradySponsor: Dr. Thomas ManningAntibiotics can be divided into groups such as bactericidal versus bacterial static; by the major disease they treat (i.e. first-and second-line Tb drugs) and by classes; the following are classes of antibiotics; Aminoglycosides; Carbapenems; Cephalosporins; Fluoroquinolones, Glycopeptides and lipoglycopeptides, Macrolides, Monobactams, Oxazolidinones, Penicillins, Polypeptides, Rifamycins, Sulfonamides, Streptogramins, Tetracyclines. This survey examines 180 antibiotics and characterizes them by different parameters.17'
