b'Predictors of Firearm Ownership in AmericaDustin E. MagilliganSponsor: Dr. James LaPlant, Department of Political ScienceThis quantitative study investigates the research question What are the predictors of firearm ownership rates in America?. The independent variables used in this study are the gun homicide rates, religiosity, percentage white, percentage bachelors degree, the Trump vote, the poverty and unemployment rates, population density, region, and violent crime rates across America. The dependent variable used in this is the gun ownership rate for each state. A correlation analysis, nine scatterplot analyses, and an ANOVA examine the relationship between the dependent and the independent variables. There is one outlier amongst the data, Wyoming, and it was removed to examine the relationship more efficiently. The correlation analysis found that three of the independent variables were statistically significant with the outlier removed. The correlation and regression analyses revealed that the vote for Donald Trump has a positive relationship and population density and violence rates have a negative relationship when examining firearm ownership. We Need to Chill: A Look into National Stress in the Age of TrumpJacob A.
