b'Essential Medicine for the Shire Ngaanyatjarra-Giles in AustraliaJeffery L. Abbott, Tristan N. Cone and Samuel B. ScruggsSponsor: Dr. Thomas Manning, Department of ChemistryThis list of essential medicines was outline by the World Health Organization [WHO]. These medicines were specifically picked out for the geographic region of Ngaanyatjarra-Giles a rural region is Western Australia. These medicines satisfy the health care needs of that population. They were selected to best suit the local population in the case of: disease prevalence, low-cost administration, and efficacy and safety of the medicine. This list also includes the drug structures of these medicines and general background information about them.Effects of Pesticides and Insecticides on Local EnvironmentsJeffery L. AbbottSponsor: Dr. Thomas Manning, Department of ChemistryIn this project I will be observing and analyzing a specific environmental site and understanding the aspects of chemistry on or in these systems. Certain aspects that will be observed and explored include the roles insecticides and pesticides play on the target environmental site. The site is located in Dasher Georgia at the GPS coordinates of (30.767001, -83.245678). The app Seek by INaturalist will be used to determine the specific species located at this environmental site. This site contains a small rainwater pond that is around 3 feet deep at one end then gradually gets around 8 feet deep at the other end. It has many surface level algae and is surrounded by different plant species like: Wax Myrtle, Water Oak, American Sweetgum, Gallberry, and Japanese Climbing Fern. In addition, chemical and physical parameters such as pH, DO, nitrate, phosphate, water hardness, etc. levels are being monitored. Sixteen groups of herbicides and pesticides such as algaecides, fungicides, insecticides, matricides, molluscicides, nematicides, pheromones, and rodenticides and their potential impact on this ecosystem will be discussed.28'
