b'College Students Perceptions of Feminisms Importance TodayPresley K LovinsSponsor: Dr. Chia-Ling Ho, Department of Communication ArtsThis paper offers insight into the phenomenon in which persons who espouse feminist ideals refuse to embrace the feminist label. This feminist paradox was studied in undergraduate students at a medium-size southeastern university in the United States through survey research. Different from previous research, this study seeks to learn about students perceptions of feminism and its relevance without forcing students to label themselves as feminists or non-feminists, and therefore not influencing their subsequent responses to feminism-related questions. The survey used three statements to examine the undergraduates perceptions of feminisms importance and relevance today, as well as their perceptions of whether or not gender equality has been achieved, each using a 7-point Likert scale. Findings suggested there is evidence that the current generation of college students do view feminism as important to todays society and as relevant to their personal lives. Half of the male respondents agreed or strongly agreed that gender equality had been achieved while all of the female respondents either disagreed or were neutral. Also, results showed that participants were more likely to view feminism as necessary in todays society if they also viewed feminism as relevant to their everyday lives.Finding out the Effects Product Endorsers Have on Peoples Willingness to Consider a ProductMary Grace HolmanSponsor: Dr. Chia-Ling Ho, Department of Communication ArtsThe research was to determine the outcome of product endorsement in the United States. I wanted to examine the extent to which product endorsers affect peoples willingness to learn more and potentially buy a product regardless of how well they like it. We live in a world where celebrities and social media, influencers, are constantly getting paid to promote a companys product. For example, do we, the consumers, know that whenever we see Selena Gomez on a Pantene ad, she is getting paid to promote that brand? However, do most of us still buy Pantene because Selena Gomez said she uses it?I constructed a survey with a series of questions to learn more about other students opinions on product endorsement. My results showed that the more a product is endorsed, the more one is likely to purchase that product.38'
