b'Dynamic AssessmentJessica Shirlene and Jessica Vaquerano RojasSponsor: Dr. Victoria Russell, Department of Modern and Classical LanguagesThis presentation focuses on dynamic assessment (DA), a concept that was first introduced by Vygotsky. It also looks at the zone of proximal development in conjunction with DA. The principles of sociocultural theory and the research on how to implement DA as well as the benefits of using it in classroom settings are examined. It is important to seek out better ways of assessing student learning. DA enables educators to assess students potential within the zone of proximal development. The purpose of this presentation is to provide a better understanding of DA and how instructors can use it in their classrooms to strengthen students knowledge and understandingsRoot-and-Pattern Morphology in Standard Arabic LanguageCharles Whiting and Jacob AlwardSponsor: Ms. Mariya Chakir, Department of Modern and Classical LanguagesThis poster will discuss root-and-pattern morphology in Standard Arabic. In this poster we will present how derivations are based on roots shifting into particular forms and how lexical items are classified as biliteral, triliteral, quadriliteral, quinqueliteral depending on the number of letters in their root. This poster will also explain how Arabic language differs from European languages in the sense that its derivational system is very rich; many word forms with different meanings can be derived from a single root.63'
