b'Civil Rights Court Cases in GeorgiaJaQuantae J. ThomasSponsor: Dr. Chris Meyers, Department of HistoryDuring the civil rights movement, many of the common ways that are known during the equality movement was peaceful protest. In Georgia, peaceful protest was not the most effective way of making civil rights progress in the state. Peaceful protest had to connect to public opinion, which was very difficult changing the minds of the southern community. In the state of Georgia, the most effective way that to make change for African Americans is through court cases. The progress that was made through the courts during the civil rights movements greatly supported the French philosopher Jeou Jacquez Rousseaus argument of the general will, saying that responsible of the government instead relying of popular sovereignty to fix societys problems. In Georgia, some of the most important cases are the main driving points that gave African Americans civil rights. Examples like King v. Chapman (1946), which eliminated the white primaries and gave African American stronger voting rights. Calhoun v. Latimer (1959) and Holmes v. Danner (1961) began the process of desegregation eliminated segregation in the schools and gave African Americans a better education. Lastly, Williams v. GPSC (1959) eliminated the segregation in the public transportation and allowed black equality in Georgia.ViriathusSergio G. In my research paper, I was able to find how he was able to go from humble origins to be able to become a leader for the Lusitanian when they never followed the rules of one single person. Viriathus image had also been changed overtime in order to fit the political agenda of the people, but his image has remained in the life of many the people who have kept Viriathus as a hero of their country. Viriathus was an example for many people after him of how a person who had almost nothing could rise to become a leader to defend others, but it also showed us the cost that he had to pay for resting the Rome with his tragic death.49'
