The Bartram Award

The Bartram Award is named for famed explorer and naturalist William Bartram and recognized exceptional achievement. It is awarded each spring to a University Honors College student who had demonstrated the skills of intellectual exploration, adventure, and achievement.

Application Criteria

  • have a grade point average of 3.50 or higher
  • be classified as a sophomore or junior
  • be currently enrolled in Honors classes or else have completed all Honors College requirements
  • demonstrate exceptional research, scholarly or creative activity in a course of study

The deadline for application is announced each January. Complete nomination packets, including a letter of nomination from a faculty member and a print or electronic copy of the research or creative project, must be submitted by the application deadline.

  • Include an essay of no more than 500 words detailing the project you have been engaged in that demonstrates exceptional research, scholarly, or creative activity in a particular course of study. Please include supporting materials to document your statements. To be considered, this application must also include a letter of recommendation from a faculty member.
