The culmination of the Celebration of Inclusion is the establishment of the Thomas/Pierce Scholarship in honor of the institution’s first two African American students, Drewnell Thomas and Robert Pierce. The scholarship will benefit first-generation college students who maintain a 3.0-grade point average and remain in good academic standing at Valdosta State.

The university's yearlong celebration of 50 years of integration will culminate with “Celebrating 50 Years,” featuring award-winning actor, bestselling author, and activist Hill Harper. The event will be held in the Student Union Ballroom Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. Key sponsors of the newly established Thomas/Pierce Scholarship Fund will be recognized at this event.
