The Center for International Programs provides institution-wide coordination for the University’s comprehensive range of services and activities in the area of international education. During the academic 2006/7:
- - 221 VSU students and 17 faculty members participated in study abroad programs;
- - 37 faculty were sponsored by the Faculty Internationalization Fund to present at international conferences and conduct research abroad;
- - 4 international scholars - recipients of the L. Brown award, taught and did collaborative research at VSU;
- - VSU was a home for 299 international students from 63 countries.
Notes and Events
- VSU has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding for student and faculty exchanges and collaboration with Daegu Haany University in South Korea. The S. Korean partner is well known for its expertise in traditional Oriental medicine. The fist group of S. Korean students will visit VSU' English Language Institute in the end of January 2008.
- Natalia Batista from Brazil is the new President of the Society for International Students. Other SIS officers are: Vice-President Minerva Blancaneaux, Belize; Event Coordinator Marcela Leiva, Colombia, Event Coordinator Samantha Chastain, USA, Secretary Teresita Perez, Belize, and Treasurer Ernie Prencke, Colombia.
- Valdosta State University's former students Vincent Mack (Political Science) and Kathleen Steffen (Business) now participate in the 2007-2008 Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals! They are part of nationally selected group of 75 winners from thousands of applicants. Read Katie's letters from Europe on our Study Abroad page.
- VSU Study Abroad program in Guadalajara, Mexico won a prestigious national award for study abroad. The Heiskell Award competition is organized by the Institute of International Education in New York. The program, directed by the Department of Modern and Classical Languages (MCL), prepares teachers of Spanish and ESL.
- Langdale College of Business offers again its summer business study abroad program in Germany (June- July, 2008). The program is unique among the public universities in Georgia. Dr. Andrew Ostapski is the Program Director.
- Dr. Babacar Mboup, professor of French from the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, is organizing again a VSU program in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, Africa in 2008. Contact him for details at bmboup@valdosta.edu.
- VSU is starting new study abroad programs in Florence, Italy and Osaka, Japan during Summer 2008! Both programs are focused on arts, film, and culture. Contact David Starling for details at dstarlin@valdosta.edu.
- VSU is proud to host during 2007/8 four Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTA), who teach Arabic (Zeina Alkaraki), Chinese (Konqin Lee), Russian (Tatyana Galueva) and Turkish (Leyla Ceylan). This is the second year of the prestigious Fulbright FLTA program at VSU. Also, a visiting instructor from Japan (Keiko Fudjimori) offers Japanese language and culture classes.
