After You're Accepted

Congratulations! We have reserved your space in Valdosta State University's Summer Bridge Academy! You were selected for this exclusive program based on your potential for success.  You can look forward to many benefits as a SBA participant including having the chance to get used to the campus before all of the other students return, earning credits early to get ahead of other fall freshmen, and feeling a sense of comfort with your fellow classmates and professors. Now that you’ve been accepted, there are a few items you’ll need to take care of before classes begin. Completing these steps before your classes begin June 5, 2013 will help to make your transition to Valdosta State smooth and easy.

Students participating in SBA will live in one of two residence halls on campus: Hopper Hall or Georgia Hall. The priority deadline for housing registration is April 1, 2013. By this date, it is recommended that you have the one-time housing application fee of $325 paid and register for your housing assignment. SBA students should be aware that housing registration and assignments are based on a first-come, first-served policy. If students miss the priority deadline, sign up for your housing assignment as soon as possible to ensure that your information has been processed and your space in your residence hall has been secured. SBA students will move in to their residence halls June 2, 2013.

You need:

  • Student ID Number / 870- number: you receive this when you are at least tentatively accepted. This will be used as your username!
  • Pin Number (password): Initially, your password is set to your birthday in this format (MONDDYYYY), i.e., JAN011993.

Financial Aid

SBA students should have completed BOTH 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 FAFSA forms upon application to the program. If you have not done so, complete this process as soon as possible. Students MUST complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application in order for SBA summer semester 2013 eligibility to be determined for federal financial aid programs, which includes student loans and grants as well as the HOPE Scholarship. Students MUST ALSO complete the 2013-2014 FAFSA application in order to be eligible for financial aid in the fall and spring semesters. To find more information on eligibility and how to apply for financial aid, please visit Valdosta State University’s Financial Aid Office’s website, contact them at 229-333-5935, OR visit Federal Student Aid’s website.

Summer Bridge Academy students will be required to attend a mandatory orientation session on June 3, 2013. Attendance is extremely important because this orientation session caters especially to the needs and questions SBA students will have. During this session, you will:

  • Receive your class schedule
  • Receive your VSU 1Card (Student ID)
  • Discuss the SBA program meal plan, including how to deposit money into your meal plan account via Banner
  • Learn more about the requirements for the SBA program
  • Meet with Financial Aid and Housing and Residence Life representatives who will be available to answer any questions you may have

VSU Welcome Programs

The Student Success Center will host a few academic workshops, presented exclusively for SBA students, before classes start to help facilitate the transition from high school to college classes. There will also be social programs available to SBA students to give you an opportunity to introduce yourself to your classmates and start building friendships that will last throughout the program’s duration.
