VSU Revitalizes Phonathon Program

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University’s Phonathon program has been revitalized as part of a broader effort by University Advancement and the Office of Annual Giving to strengthen alumni engagement and expand philanthropic support for the university.

Revamped in 2024 after being inactive since late 2018, the Phonathon program underwent several semesters of planning, restructuring, and training development before officially relaunching in Spring 2025. Since its return, the program has already demonstrated measurable impact, securing $16,234 in pledges from Spring 2025 through Spring 2026.

The Phonathon program currently employs eight to 10 student callers, supported by one graduate assistant, ensuring consistent staffing and meaningful engagement with alumni and friends of the university throughout the academic year. Student callers receive training that emphasizes not only fundraising outreach but also relationship-building conversations that reconnect alumni to Valdosta State University.

Rather than focusing solely on solicitation, the program prioritizes reengaging lapsed donors and identifying future supporters by strengthening personal connections with the VSU community. Through updated calling strategies, consistent outreach, and a renewed emphasis on stewardship and follow-up, the Phonathon is helping rebuild a sustainable pipeline of engaged donors who are more likely to give consistently over time.

As the program continues to grow, University Advancement remains committed to expanding opportunities for alumni connection and advancing a culture of philanthropy that supports student success and institutional priorities at Valdosta State University.
