John Bennett Named Social Media and Web Content Manager at VSU

VALDOSTA -- John R. Bennett Jr. has been named the new social media and web content manager at VSU. He has spent most of his career advising college student media organizations including newspapers, magazines, radio, television and Internet media groups. He has also worked in higher education communications, publishing and student affairs.

From 2000-2011, Bennett was director of student media at the Savannah College of Art and Design where he developed and oversaw the operation of multimedia laboratory programs at the college's Savannah and Atlanta campuses.

"I'm excited to be back at Valdosta State because being on campus evokes memories of my time as an undergraduate here,” said Bennett. “However, every day I'm reminded how much the college is changing and growing and that makes me even more excited to be part of what is happening now at VSU."

Bennett earned a B.A. in English from VSU in 1990. He holds master’s degrees from Florida State University and the Savannah College of Art and Design. He also earned a doctorate in public administration from VSU last month. Bennett has taught classes in the public administration and organizational leadership programs at Valdosta State.

As the new social media and web content manager at VSU, Bennett is part of a team that is redeveloping the university's website. He is also working on social media strategies and guidelines.

Bennett is excited about providing ongoing to support to university departments. His primary goal is to help them use web pages and social media to accomplish their missions.
