Kang Named Editor for Immunology Journal

VALDOSTA -- Dr. Jonghoon Kang, assistant professor of biology, has been appointed to the editorial board for the Journal of Clinical and Cellular Immunology (JCCI).

JCCI is a new publication with OMICS Publishing Group, an open access database of articles that focus on various sciences. The journal publishes original and peer-reviewed manuscripts that pertain to the immunological activities of cells in experimental and clinical situations.

Kang said that he did not apply for a position on the editorial board. Rather, he was sought by the publishing group because of his expertise in immunology, particularly with heparin-protein interactions.

"This is not just my achievement," Kang said. "This accomplishment demonstrates the tremendous support I have gotten from Valdosta State University."

As an editor, Kang will review all manuscripts and make recommendations for publication. He is one of 63 members on the editorial board.

"This is a very prestigious honor for me because I get to represent VSU as I work alongside professors from institutions such as Yale, Oxford and Stanford."

Kang teaches molecular and cellular biology and anticipates instructing molecular biophysics classes this fall. His research interests include drug development, heparin-protein interactions, immunology and biophysics.

Kang has published 22 peer-reviewed papers. During his three-year tenure with the university, he has published six papers, five of which are co-authored by VSU students.
