Nominations Due for First Student Employment Award

VALDOSTA - Nominations for Valdosta State University’s first ever Student Employee of the Year are due to the Student Employment Office by end of day Feb. 8.

VSU invites all departments to nominate individuals who have proven to be reliable, qualified, motivated, professional and creative. To qualify, outstanding employees must work at a VSU department on an hourly basis and have completed or expect to complete a minimum of six months employment during the academic year.

Representatives from Career Services, Human Resources, Financial Aid, the Student Success Center and the Student Government Association will compose the evaluation committee, which will choose the VSU Employee of the Year based on a rating system determined by the Southern Association of Student Employee Administrators (SASEA).

The winner will receive a plaque and a $50 gift certificate to the VSU Bookstore as well as the opportunity to compete against other student employees for cash prizes and recognition in the SASEA regional and national competitions.

Almost every department on campus employs at least one of the more than 600 student workers at VSU. These workers serve in many capacities from administrative assistants to lab assistants, intramural officials. Each offers his or her individual influence to the university’s culture and many excel in their positions, ultimately leading to the success of this university.

The Student of the Year will have an exceptional opportunity to represent VSU at the regional level for the first time. To nominate an outstanding individual for the award, visit the Student Employment Office in Langdale Hall, call Student Employment Manager Sherri Girard at (229) 333-7574 or download the nomination form at http://www.valdosta.edu/finadmin/human_resources/studemp/StudentEmployeeoftheYear.shtml .
