Orientation Leaders (OLs) are selected based on their ability to work well with others, communicate effectively, and commit to an energetic and rigorous schedule. OLs must display public relations skills and maturity of judgment. OLs should also display patience, flexibility, strong organizational and communication skills, and be willing and ready to learn and to promote the VSU campus. Candidates should be resourceful and capable of assuming a leadership position often with minimal supervision.
All Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a full-time degree seeking undergraduate student and completed 12 credit hours at Valdosta State University
- Be in good academic and judicial standing with the University; minimum 2.5 GPA
Expectations of VSU Orientation Leaders:
- Exhibit leadership potential
- Possess a positive attitude
- Willingness to work in a team environment and often with limited direct supervision
- Demonstrate self-initiative, punctuality, maturity, and flexibility
- Able to lift a minimum of 10 lbs
Commitments and Responsibilities of Orientation Leaders:
- Attend and participate in weekly Orientation Leader training sessions February-April
- Attend a team building retreat on campus during the Spring semester (TBA)
- Facilitate guided tours designated as VSU Visitation Days scheduled by the Office of VSU Admissions (dates TBA)
- Welcome new students and families to the university and assist with the orientation check- in process at all orientation sessions May- August
- Assist students with becoming familiar with campus resources, class registration processes, promotion of student engagement activities
- Orientation Leaders cannot take on-campus classes during May, June or July; on-line classes are approved. If employed at another job it cannot conflict with the orientation session dates

- Complete and submit application
- Email orientation@valdosta.edu for an interview with Orientation staff and Orientation Selection Committee
- New Orientation Leaders will be announced the month of February of each year
