It is impressive to witness a student, full of drive and perseverance, make the most of their time in LCOBA. Success in the business school requires determination, maturity, drive and vision - all of which James Powell exudes. Even as a child, his parents recognized his leadership skills. “He was always strong- headed. I thought he was being stubborn but now looking back, I understand that he knew what he wanted and did whatever it took to achieve it,” said Jackie Powell Powell is a very active student in LCOBA. He is a Healthcare Administration major, who looks for every opportunity to learn and leave his legacy at the Langdale College. Because Powell recognizes the problems that exist in the healthcare system, he has engaged in solution-based conversations with LCOBA faculty and local healthcare administrators. Powell pursued an opportunity to shadow the Chief Executive Officer of SGMC, a local hospital in Valdosta, which led to shadowing the rest of the executive team. Due to Powells’ impressive presence in the program, he quickly was offered a paid internship, reporting directly to Health Evans, COO of SGMC. Powell is an Administrative Intern for the Executive team at SGMC and has overseen several projects that will carve a path to making the healthcare system more efficient. Heath Evans describes James as having impeccable networking skills and highly capable of completing any task put before him. Powell has been tasked with researching new trends in hospitals and educating the executive team about those trends. From this education, conversations have commenced on how to navigate these issues and comprise a plan of action to address rising trends. Such as lessening the burden on emergency rooms and finding a way to thin the concentration of patients, while providing fast and efficient care. In identifying solutions to current hospital trends, Powell and his team have focused on the following projects: PROJECTS Micro-Hospitals Community Paramedicine Mobile Health Clinc Non-Emergent Patients in the Emergency Department Medical Equipment Contract To say that James Powell is a rising star in the healthcare administration field is an understatement. Powell simply embodies what it takes to be successful and he truly holds the world in his hands as to what he will do next in his future career.
