b'Developing Variables to Assess Coping with Alcohol Flush SyndromeKhari T. Hardin and Naomi E. NelsonSponsor: Dr. TalorThe following proposal examined how people cope with Alcohol Flush Syndrome. Alcohol Flush Syndrome occurs when a susceptible person has a single drink of alcohol which results in a red flushed skin including on the face. The mechanism of this syndrome is a lack on an enzyme that breaks down derivatives of alcohol in the body. This project is being designed to create a survey to: 1) Analyze the individuals drinking habits and presence of Facial Flush, 2) Assess a measure of personality, 3) Coping responses after having alcohol. We intend to compare people who have facial flush to those who do not on measures of alcohol use, personality, and coping responses.Turning Blue: What Factors Predict the Warnock Vote in the 2021 Georgia Senate Runoff Election?Vanessa I. OkojieSponsor: Dr. PufongThe purpose of this quantitative study is to examine the key predictors leading to the recent and historic success of Senator Raphael Warnock. This study evaluates the factors that led to the unprecedented victory of Senator Warnock by reviewing data from the 159 counties in Georgia. This study analyzes six independent variables: percentage of the African American population per county, absentee ballots request rate per county, percentage of the 2020 Biden vote per county, percentage of the population over 25 with a college degree per county, population density per capita, and covid infection rate per capita per county. The impact of these variables on the dependent variable, the percentage of the vote for Warnock per county, is determined through a correlation analysis, scatterplot, and multivariate regression analysis.Four of the six variables proved to be highly significant with p.01: African American population, absentee ballot requests, 2020 Biden vote, and education level. Interestingly, population density was significant at the bivariate level but washed out in the multivariate model. The covid infection variable had minimal influence on the success of Warnock and is not a significant predictor. As aforementioned, Warnocks victory in Georgia was unprecedented; as a reward for his efforts, he gets to try to do it all again in 2022. 56'
