b'Classroom Applications of Longs Interaction HypothesisKiya EzellSponsor: Dr. RussellThis research poster examined applications of Longs Interaction Hypothesis, which states that second language (L2) interaction is an essential part of L2 acquisition. More specifically, the studies that were examined focused on the negotiation of meaning, which is theorized to take place as interlocutors collaborate to repair comprehension problems that have arisen during communication (Mitchell, Myles, & Marsden, 2013). Research studies have demonstrated that there are various ways to obtain the benefits of L2 interaction with the following being promising: (1) participation in computer-mediated activities and (2) use of strategic interaction. This review of the research on the interaction hypothesis includes practical implications, key terms, visuals, and references for further reading. The Effects of Anxiety on Language LearningTyler Adkins-ChatfieldSponsor: Dr. RussellLanguage students usually express anxiety, apprehension, and nervousness when learning a new language. Language anxiety can originate from identity conflicts, self-related cognitions, language learning difficulties, differences in culture between the learner and target language, and differences in social status of the speakers or interlocutors, as well as an insufficient command of the target language (Sparks and Ganschow 2001). It is imperative that language learning anxiety must be considered by language teachers and students, and anxiety must be minimized in order to assist students in achieving the intended performance goals in the target language (Tanveer 2007). The purpose of this presentation is to review the research on the effects of anxiety on language learners.ZE Wellness Fund: Affordable Health Program ModelZoe A. BarrettSponsor: Dr. Parra(With work in the Department of Mathematics)The problem this research addressed was that people were unable to go to the doctor because they could not pay for the visit. The ZE Wellness Fund: Affordable Health Program Model is a research model of a nonprofit fund envisioned to be set up within clinics to help patients pay for their doctor visits by paying for specific tests. Another plan that this research proposes is a monthly payment plan model to help with doctor visits for that specific day. The survey analyzes information on who this model would benefit and puts into perspective of how it would help them.41'
