The approximate $400 million total economic impact on output of Valdosta State University represents over 8 percent of total personal income for the Valdosta MSA. The Valdosta State University-related activities support nearly 4,700 jobs or over 8 percent of the jobs in the Valdosta-MSA.Although the economic impacts on the Valdosta MSA are significant, these numbers do not include capital expenditure impacts or the qualitative benefits of the university on the Valdosta-MSA and South Georgia region. Examples of benefits not included but vital to the quality of life and success of our region include1. The value of the outreach programs sponsored by Valdosta State University, such as Enactus, the summer reading programs offered by the Dewar College of Education and Human Services, the continuing education programs, the international programs, and various lecture series. 2. Community volunteer hours by Valdosta State University students, staff, faculty, and administrators.3. The additional expenditures in the community associated with orientation days, athletic events, and cultural events. 4. Local access to a comprehensive university library. 5. The value of the retired university personnel and dependents locating in the Valdosta MSA. 6. The potential economic impacts in the nearby Central Georgia and North Florida counties not included in the Valdosta MSA.
