b'Accounting Faculty &Students Engage inResearch-Based LearningBy Ron StundaOver the past five years, the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administrations Department of Accounting has been successful in establishing a research relationship between its faculty and students. This has resulted in 11 co-authored papers in refereed academic and practitioner journals and six student/faculty presentations at national and international conferences. This record, which has provided the college and the academic department with national recognition, has been due, in part, to the willingness of individual faculty members to incorporate a research component in their classes. It is also due, in large measure, to the commitment of the college to fund such faculty and student engagement. The willingness of the faculty to engage students has resulted in impacting the students by broadening their perspective of the discipline while furthering their research and analytical skills. This, in turn, has translated into recognition by potential employers. This engagement has also been recognized by the colleges accreditation board, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in the College of Business Administrations recent re-accreditation, and the Department of Accountings pursuit of initial accreditation by AACSB, which would make it one of only 176 AACSB-accredited accounting programs in the world.Dr. Ron Stunda is head of the Department of Accounting at VSU.48 Langdale College of Business'
