The Library Media Certification Only program offers an engaging and flexible educational model designed to fit the busy schedules of working educational professionals seeking certification in library media. Our program provides practical opportunities for students to practice the standards of the American Association of School Librarians; and to design, develop, utilize, manage, and evaluate instructional technology. You will enjoy learning from our quality faculty whose real-world experience and knowledge have been acquired through many years learning, researching, and working in instructional technology and school library media.

Cost and Length of Program

The prescribed course sequence will allow you to complete the course requirements of the program within 5 semesters. Please follow this link to a document that lists the required courses and their descriptions in the sequence that you will complete them. Based on completing 30 course hours*, the cost of the program is *$8,790 not including standard University fees. We encourage you to compare our cost with any other institution. We think you will be pleasantly surprised to see what a great value VSU is. *Actual number of courses needed to complete requirements is based on the certification transcript evaluation.

Online Graduate Application

One Official Transcript from each graduate institution where you have previously enrolled.
(Transcripts of coursework completed in-residence at VSU will be obtained by the Graduate School.)

  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale for a graduate degree, calculated on all work attempted in which letter grades are awarded.
  • Certification Transcript Evaluation Required: Prior to applying to the certification only program, prospective students should request a certification transcript evaluation. The Educator Certification Office will begin the process of transcript/record review for certification requirements; there is a $35 filing fee for this service. Unofficial transcripts may be submitted for the Certification Evaluation Request.

GACE Program Admission Assessment
  • Passing scores on the GACE Program Admission Assessment or GACE Basic Skills Assessment or qualifying exemption.
  • Qualifying exemptions include acceptable scores on the ACT, GRE, SAT, or a valid level 4 or higher Induction, Professional, Advanced Professional, or Lead Professional teaching certificate, leadership certificate, service field certificate, or Life certificate. 
VSU Medical Form
  • Online students complete the Student Information and Distance Learning Exemption sections of the Medical Form. Immunization records are not required.
  • The form must be completed and signed by the student/applicant.
  • This form must be received prior to enrollment, NOT prior to admission.
  • Applicants who are currently enrolled, and those who attended VSU in the past, are not required to resubmit the Medical Form
