About this field

The Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Elementary Education prepares teacher candidates to teach and support students in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade in the field of elementary education. Successful completion of the program leads to a Georgia Professional Standards Commission Induction Level – T-4 certification in Elementary Education (P-5).

The Valdosta State Difference

The Elementary Education program is designed to prepare professional educators with the knowledge, dispositions, and competencies necessary to support and enhance P-5 students’ overall intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and personal growth and development. The design of the program includes a variety of methods and content courses with hands-on activities. These courses are supported by structured field experiences designed to provide opportunities to meld theory with practice in field-based interactions with P-5 students in general education and inclusive settings.

What You'll Learn

The Valdosta State Elementary Education program is designed to create versatile, well-rounded educators who can teach in a P-5 classroom setting.  Students learn the value of planning, instruction, and assessment and how they impact student learning.  Teacher candidates leave the program with a wide range of research-based practices including how to infuse technology in a 21st century classroom.
