b"VSIG's Visit to Georgia State CapitolValdosta State Investment Groups Visit to Georgia State CapitolBy Dr. Elvan AktasVSU has a number of fascinating experiential learning opportunities that are unknown to many outsiders. The Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration offers many such opportunities, including the Valdosta State Investment Group (VSIG) and student-managed portfolio.VSIG operates as a student club that utilizes the on-campus Southeast Credit Union Financial Trading Center, located in the Health Sciences and Business Administration Building. Offering weekly meetings, trading opportunity presentations, guest speakers, and an annual trip to New York City and New York Stock Exchange, this club is an educational tool that allows us to recruit the Asset Management Teama team of experienced members who manage our student-managed portfolio. Our portfolio has grown to around $230,000 from the initial $35,000 when trading began in 2013. This growth includes the portfolio returns, dividends, as well as new donations by our advisory board members, who are Wall Street and local area business leaders. When President Richard Carvajal asked me to represent VSIG at the Georgia State Capitol during the hearings of the House Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee, I was thrilled to have an opportunity to show our legislators what kind of opportunities we offer to our students at VSU. I was accompanied by our club president and portfolio manager, Devon Etheridge Branch, a Master of Accountancy student from Lakeland, Georgia, and Faith Hannah Carter, an undergraduate student and junior analyst of our portfolio from Valdosta, Georgia.44 Langdale College of Business"
