Insects

Insects are the dominant group of terrestrial animals in terms of both species numbers and biomass. They provide essential ecosystem services that affect the composition and structure of plant and animal communities. We will use several collecting techniques including nighttime black light sampling to assess insect populations in the habitats at Grassy Pond. This is an opportunity to get up close and personal with the six-legged rulers of planet Earth. Collecting materials and microscopes will be available, so come prepared to grab a net and take a swing.
