Phenix J. Culbertson is a proud alumnus of Valdosta State University and University of Florida. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice with a Spanish minor and honor distinction of Summa Cum Laude. Following, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Forensic Science with the honor distinction of Cum Laude. Phenix currently serves as the Employer Relations Specialist in the Office of Career Opportunities networking and establishing relationships with employers to provide employment and experiential learning opportunities to VSU students and alumni. Additionally, he coordinates internships and co-op for students in collaboration with faculty and employers. Phenix also works part-time as an Academic & Career Mentor for non-traditional students at Coastal Plains Education Charter High School.
Phenix is heavily involved on the VSU campus. He serves as the Chair of the Student Affairs Training and Development Committee to facilitate learning, training, and development for the Division of Student Affairs staff. He also serves as the Treasurer for MESA (Mentor, Engagement, Support, & Achieve) to enhance the college experience for Latinx students. Phenix is also the on-campus advisor for the student organization VIAJESUS to provide adequate resources and knowledge to the executive board and members.
Although Phenix’s career field has changed from the criminal justice realm to higher education, his ultimate desire is to help individuals succeed. Phenix commences the Doctoral Program of Public Administration in August 2019 with the goal of obtaining his third degree. He plans to utilize his criminal justice, forensics, and higher education leadership experience and education to serve as a leader in a forensic or criminal justice agency. Ultimately, Phenix desires to write policies, implement change, impart knowledge, and serve as a public leader.
