Mr. Jay Hicks retired from public education in Florida, where he taught elementary and middle grades general music, music technology, guitar, band, and chorus. He has also taught private and group guitar for over thirty years. Mr. Hicks holds a B.B.A. in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University, a B.A.in Music Theory from Charter Oak State College, and a Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Florida He has additional years of study in classical and jazz guitar at Valdosta State University. He currently serves as an adjunct music instructor at North Florida College and Valdosta State University. In addition to teaching, he is a published writer and composer, having edited and written guitar methods for the FJH Music Company in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Method Teacher, LLC in Tallahassee, Florida. Mr. Hicks performs regularly, playing solo classical, jazz, and popular fingerstyle guitar arrangements. He also plays with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, and has played in bluegrass and classic rock bands in Atlanta and South Georgia.
