Teaching and Research Interests
Dr. Ide’s teaching interests include sociology of education, sociology of families, research methods, social inequality, and religion. His teaching emphasizes relational and dialogic pedagogy helping students connect sociological theory and findings to lived experience through active engagement and reflection. Dr. Ide's courses that balance structure and creativity, combining clear scaffolding with active, experiential methods that help students think like sociologists. Dr. Ide's teaching is committed to student growth and belonging—cultivating classrooms where students feel both challenged and supported as they learn to see the world, and themselves, through new lenses. 
His qualitative research primarily explores how family relationships and social class shape students’ college experiences, self-concepts, and educational outcomes. Other major research has included work/labor, social movements, and identity formation.
