  • Bachelor of Arts, Communication Studies, Corporate Communication

I attended a small community college in central Illinois, where I earned an Associate of Applied Sciences in Medical Laboratory Science before pursuing a BA in Communication Studies at Eastern Illinois University. I then stayed at EIU to pursue a Master's degree in Communication Studies while working as a full-time transfer admissions counselor. After completing my MA, I began work in the Communication Studies Department at EIU as the Central Advisor & Internship Coordinator. I taught courses in Organizational Comm, Interpersonal Comm, Interviewing, and Public Speaking. In 2015 I relocated to GA and began teaching at VSU for the 15-16 and 16-17 school years. In 2017 I worked for a year in a small retail store in Savannah, Georgia before returning to Valdosta State University in August 2018. I currently teach courses in Communication Technology and Visual Communication. My favorite software program is Photoshop, but usually only with my own photos. I don't like to retouch a picture I didn't take.

I am originally from upstate New York but grew up in Illinois and only recently moved to Georgia in 2015. My husband and I live about 2.5 hours from campus, so I enjoy a scenic drive to work every day while I listen to podcasts and audiobooks. We have 3 fur-children: Skipper is an Australian cattle dog, Sarge is a Lab/Australian cattle dog mix, and Solo, who I affectionately call 'gutter kitten' as his breed. (I did, in fact, find him in a gutter, so it's applicable). I'm a Sagittarius, but I have no idea what that means. Also, I'm a huge nerd and love Harry Potter (Slytherin House, my Patronus is a Tortoiseshell Cat), and if you want to see a ridiculous amount of Harry Potter stuff, please feel free to stop by. It's a little out of control. In my free time I like watching movies, photography, running (on purpose!), and naps in the sunshine in our pool. I am mildly addicted to chips & salsa and LaCroix water, all of which I keep well-stocked in my office. My life's ambition is to retire and open an equestrian assisted therapy facility for individuals with cognitive, physical, and/or emotional disabilities or delays. I usually keep snacks in my office, so feel free to pop in to chat and snack with me.
