Academic Advisor I
- Communication Arts, B.A.
Valdosta State University
Year started working at VSU: 2021
Why I love advising: I genuinely believe that advising is more than just giving a student a track of classes, but it is also an opportunity to provide a student with support, wisdom, and life skills. Going through my own college journey, I saw just how impactful an advisor could be—especially when there may be less support in other areas. Advising gives me the opportunity to show students that there is always someone there rooting for them, and a place where they can receive the help and guidance needed as they strive for their degree.
Hometown: Cordele, GA
Hobbies/interests: In my free time you will find me doing anything from quilting to gardening, singing to drawing, reading, or practicing guitar. I like to keep busy, but also find these hobbies very calming and relaxing.
Fun fact: In college I was known for giving high-fives and “fun-facts.”
Why VSU: Valdosta State is where I pursued my Bachelor’s, grew as an individual, and met my husband. So, my time here has been amazing! Receiving education from this university was a genuine blessing in my life, and it has been amazing to see it come full circle as I can now strive to guide others to success. Valdosta has also become a home to me after joining a local church and connecting with the community here. Having the opportunity to keep calling Valdosta home is fantastic.
Areas/Program I advise: American Sign Language, Deaf Education, Communication Sciences and Disorders
