The Valdosta State University Counseling Center’s psychiatric services are provided to active and enrolled students to complement counseling services. The Counseling Center’s services include psychiatric evaluation and medication management follow-up appointments. Students who take advantage of other services at the Counseling Center are not required to take medication. Medications may be appropriate when mental health symptoms are severe and interfere with normal functioning and academic performance.
Psychiatric services are provided at an out-of-pocket cost, unlike the other services offered at the Counseling Center. Students who cannot afford psychiatric services at the Counseling Center will receive appropriate community referrals for free or low-cost services in the Valdosta area. The following costs are due at the time of service and may be dependent upon your insurance. Review our ADHD medication policy HERE.
Follow-Up Medication Management Appointments
The Valdosta State University Counseling Center is excited to offer a new, state-of-the-art trend in medicine--Telepsychiatry. Telepsychiatry is telemedicine, meaning that the process of psychiatric care will be through the use of technology and video software. Students who use this service will benefit from the same confidentiality and security protocols of traditional healthcare formats, in addition to meeting with a specialist who would be unavailable in the south Georgia region. Read more about Telepsychiatry from the American Psychiatric Association's website HERE.
