72 entire process, from design to completion, takes about 90 days for one tiny house. The company offers a variety of sizes and styles, ranging from 130 to 375 square feet and varying in price from $30,000 to $80,000. Tiny house enthusiasts espouse the downsized lifestyle for many reasons, including the freedom to travel almost anywhere without a rent or mortgage payment, low water and power bills, and an environmental footprint that is next to nothing. Tiny house construction has become much more competitive as the trend has gained more momentum, Ringer said, which is one reason why Free Range Tiny Homes decided to scale back its tiny house building in 2018. Both Ringer and Green got busier with their own businesses, and they did not want to offer lower prices and sacrifice the quality of their homes. Instead, Free Range Tiny Homes has decided to build one to two luxury tiny houses a year at a premium price. Doing so allows Ringer and Green to keep their business — and the fun — alive but still have enough time for their main endeavors. Ringer said that even though he did not end up working as a health and physical education teacher, he has VSU to thank for the many “life lessons” and valuable knowledge that helped him get to where he is today. “I loved VSU,” he said. “The campus, the people, the teachers — I loved all of it. I fell in love with the Front Lawn. I loved that it was close to Florida. I loved the size of the classes. After my freshman year, I was one of the people who never went home. It was my place. “What I took from college was the life experience. It’s a good buffer between an 18-year-old kid and the real world. The life lessons you learn from money management, people skills, and things like that are so valuable. A lot of things I learned in my major were education-based, but they carry on into life. They are things that I still use to this day.”
