VALDOSTA STATE MAGAZINE 61 As a student at Valdosta State University pursuing an Education Specialist in school counseling, Mi’esha Reynolds dreamed of living and working overseas, specifically in a country on the continents of Africa or Asia. She interviewed at schools in Kuwait, Nigeria, and South Korea, and while she received a few job offers, she did not believe any of them were a good fit. A faithful Mi’esha, full of confidence and courage, prayed about her future, sharing her bold dream with God. “I applied to the American International School of Egypt on a whim,” she shared. “Egypt wasn’t on our list of ideal locations when we began our search. Within a day or so I received an email from the director asking me to interview.” Mi’esha met with the director before sunrise one morning via Skype. Her husband, Christian, was by her side, and the couple asked if the school offered any opportunities for trailing spouses on a dependent visa to volunteer their time and talents. Egypt only had so many work visas available; they were prepared to live on one income if that was their only option. “The director explained that the school had a permanent substitute position my husband could apply for and the only requirement was a bachelor’s degree,” she said. “Talk about sheer luck and blessings.” A couple of weeks later, Mi’esha and her husband both received job offers. Mi’esha graduated from VSU in May 2018. Three months later, the couple and their cat named Nugget boarded a plane and traveled more than 6,300 miles to begin their new adventure, which got off to a rocky start when the airline lost their luggage for five days.
