They viewed every obstacle as an opportunity to grow stronger. The Blazers tried their best and delivered perfection — the first 14-0 undefeated season in VSU history. One inch at a time, the Blazers set the Gulf South Conference and VSU record for scoring with 728 points. They were the only team in all divisions of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to score 44 or more points in 13 of 14 games. The offense led the nation in scoring with 52 points per game, with defense leading the nation with seven touchdowns. They laid it all on the line to became the No. 1 NCAA Division II football team in America and finish at the top of the American Football Coaches Association DII Poll. They proved that legends always find a way.
