ELED Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Elementary Education is based on the COEHS theme, "Preparing Professionals for Service." in reflection of this theme, the faculty is committed to preparing professional educators who can effectively demonstrate the knowledge, competencies, and skills necessary to teach children in ways that enhance their overall growth. They will also be able to make reflective, ethical, theoretical, and pedagogical sound decisions when planning and implementing curricula and programs. In collaboration with P-5 schools, other child-care professionals, and community agencies, the diverse ELED faculty strives to provide information and experiences that will broaden candidates' perspectives to encompass a global view of the teaching/learning process, while maintaining a clear vision of the needs of youth and families in our service area. It is our intention to maintain high standards of professional excellence to prepare our candidates to successfully teach, serve, and administer programs in a variety of educational settings.
