Cathy Rogers Testimonial

The MMP in Collaborative Piano at VSU gave me opportunity to experience the gamut of what a professional pianist will encounter once leaving his/her academic studies. This degree provides opportunities for a pianist to collaborate with professional solo musicians, beginning to advanced music students, choral, opera, chamber and orchestral ensembles in an environment that is conducive to learning. Performance opportunities were provided that were both challenging and realistic to who I am as a pianist. I was measured against my own achievements and encouraged to always keep striving for my highest musical potential. My assistantship as a collaborative pianist in the vocal studios and as secondary piano teacher gave me the professional experiences I needed to qualify me for future employment opportunities. My time in Dr. Indergaard's piano studio continues to manifest a wealth of valued instruction as I seek to develop my own professional growth and pursuits as a college teacher and staff accompanist.

Valerie Smith Testimonial

Having long aspired to a career in piano performance, I obtained a BM in Piano Performance and subsequently received the MMP in Collaborative Piano from Valdosta State University. The opportunity to work under Dr. Indergaard's challenging but realistic, clearly defined and encouraging instruction provided the training and experience that enabled me to fulfill not only my life long aspiration but to realize the importance of goal setting, dedication and team work as it pertains to the learning and making of music. This program allowed for my continued growth in technique, the art of listening, musicality, realization of the wide array of musical genres, and collaboration with numerous solo musicians and chamber groups, including both students and faculty. Involved in this growth was the opportunity to advance in organizational skills that have greatly benefited me as I work as a collaborative pianist with Valdosta State University's Music Department, the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, and in the Valdosta community, balancing the challenge of a high volume of musical preparation in multiple genres, with the full spectrum of instruments and personality types. My time at VSU in the MMP program will remain invaluable as it has been a stepping stone to my career as a professional and enthusiastic collaborative pianist.
